The Ongoing Struggle in California

Hello friends,

You may be wondering how to help the animals who were injured in the California wildfires. It can be a bit overwhelming deciding where to send donations, especially if you are not connected to a wildlife or domestic animal rescue.

Sadly, numerous rescues only had time to evacuate the animals in their care. They've lost their rescue facilities, medications, housing, and all the other basic supplies needed to continue their work.

How to safely donate:

If you are interested in donating but aren't connected with a rescue organization your personally trust, do your research.

  • Visit the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website which provides a list of the wildlife rehabilitation facilities in the state.

  • Find a rescue that you are interested in.

  • Do some research before donating- visit their websites and social media pages, making sure to read the comments.

  • Look to see if the organizations in which you are interested have an Amazon Wishlist. Are the items on their list legitimate requests, such as animal housing, towels, blankets, medical supplies and so forth?

  • Ask around- do your friends and family know of a trustworthy organization in need?

If you are unable to support a rescue financially, you can support them by sharing their stories on social media. Bringing attention to their needs can really help the animals and their rescuers. This is particularly meaningful during a time when rescuers may be homeless themselves, and they are doing the best they can without the necessary supplies that are needed to help the animals who have been injured by the fires.

Their hard work still goes on and the animals still need our help. To learn more about the effects the wildfires have had on wildlife, check out the links below. Los Angeles Wildfires Threaten Animals, Pets and Wildlife What do the Deadly Los Angeles Wildfires Mean for the City's Wildlife?
